Efficacy and Safety of Tosufloxacin in Patients with Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Airway Disease

Abstract
Tosulfoxacin is one of the newer fluoroquinolone antibiotics demonstrated strong in vitro antibacterial-activity against Gram positite and Gram negative orgamisms. Authors assessed clinical efficacy and safety of tosufloxacin among patients with acute exacerba
tion of chronic airway disease.
Patients with known chronic broncitis (n= 8), bronchiectasis (n=10), and bronchiolitis (n=3) who developed acute exacerbation were given tosufloxacin 150 mg, t.i.d. daily for 7-10 days.
At the end of treatment 17 patient showed satisfactory response (81%). One patient showed mild epigastric discomfort and another patient developed leukopenia which recovered after cessation of drug.
From these results, tosufloxacin is effective and safe antibiotic in the management of acute exacerbation of chronic airway disease.
